La manière de formuler la date dépend du pays dans lequel on est ! Il y a un système britannique et un système américain.

À l'oral, on lit généralement : « Thursday, the seventh of April 2008 ».

À partir de l'an 2000, on lit la date comme un nombre ordinaire :

  • 2001 : two thousand and one (anglais britannique)
  • 2001 : two thousand one (anglais américain)

Pour les années antérieures à l'an 2000, on découpe en 2 éléments :

  • 1997 : nineteen | ninety-seven
  • 1905 : nineteen-o-five
  • 1900 : nineteen hundred

Comment écrire la date ?

En anglais GB, l'ordre est le plus souvent : JOUR / MOIS / ANNÉE

  • 15 August 1990
  • 28 March 2000

On utilise une virgule entre le mois et l'année lorsque la date est dans une phrase : I was born on 26th May, 1979.

Parfois, les deux dernières lettres du chiffre sont ajoutées à la date :

  • -st : 1st March 2007
  • -nd : 2nd March 2007
  • -rd : 3rd March 2007
  • -th : 12th March 2007
